SUMMARY:E-Safety With the Under 8s
DESCRIPTION:Children are increasingly becoming regular users of internet connected devices from a very young age. A study ‘Children and parents: Media use and attitudes in the nations’\, published by Ofcom  in 2012 reported that  In each of the four nations over 80% of children aged 5-15 use the internet at home. Parents of children aged 5 -15 in Wales are more likely than the UK average to have concerns about content on the internet (25% vs. 17%) and smartphone ownership among 5 -15s has increased in all four nations since 2011. Adults who care for and support young children\, and their parents often express a lack of confidence in using and managing access to the technology that the  children take for granted. This Children in Wales course is aimed at anyone working with children under 8 years old and who wants to ensure that any access to new technology (computers\, tablets\, games consoles\, smart phones etc) is both safe and appropriate. It is particularly suitable for adults who are not IT specialists.Find out more and book your place via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:Can Welsh public services thrive without the market?
DESCRIPTION:Wales is one of Europe’s most public sector dependent economies. The Welsh Government has followed a ‘clear red water’ policy which focuses on co-operation in the public sector not competition or even contestability. \nCan this approach continue or will the Welsh Government Commission on Public Service Governance and Delivery offer an alternative vision? \nThere are a number of innovative ideas now emerging from the centre right in Wales on public services\, in addition to these more traditional approaches to public services such as the introduction of more mutuals (co-operatives) still remain largely unexplored. \nCome and listen to latest expert opinion on new aspects of the public sector and the market and provide your own input at the inaugural conference of Gorwel\, a new independent Welsh think tank\, in association with the Institute of Welsh Affairs. \nStandard delegate rate: £75 Delegate rate to include discounted membership of Gorwel: £90 \nGorwel Conference Programme
