SUMMARY:Procurement and the Welsh Language - contracts and grants

SUMMARY:Life story sessions for people living with dementia
DESCRIPTION:Life Story sessions are aimed at people living with dementia working together with their partner\, friend or family member to create their ‘life story.’ During the Alzheimer’s Society session\, the person with dementia will have the opportunity to explore their life and record their memories in whatever format they choose. \nThere is a group fortnightly on a Monday afternoon in Cardiff. There is no cost associated with this group\, however it is up to individuals to provide their own resources e.g. books\, albums\, boxes\, etc. \nMany people have told us that ‘Life Stories’ sounds interesting but have admitted that they are not exactly sure what to expect from the group. Therefore two members of the current life stories group have very kindly agreed to answer some questions about their experience and share their thoughts with us. Their interview can be found in the newsletter. \nIf you would like to find out more about the group and are unable to go along on December 21st\, please contact Karen Edwards at the Alzheimer’s Society on (029) 2043 4964 or email Karen.edwards@alzheimers.org.uk

SUMMARY:'Keeping our Children Safe' - Designated Person Child Protection
DESCRIPTION:  \nA two-day Children in Wales course \nAll children have the right to live lives free from abuse and neglect but recent events highlight\, yet again\, how difficult it can be for so many adults to recognise\, and act on concerns about the safety or welfare of a child. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all organisations concerned with children should work towards what’s best for each child. The Designated Person for Child Protection has a vital role within organisations helping to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place and that necessary action is taken when concerns about a child are raised. This course is aimed at people acting in the ‘Designated Person’ role working in a variety of organisations including schools\, children’s daycare and residential settings\, also services providing support to children and families in the voluntary and private sector. \nThis two day training course will consider: \n\nThe role of the Designated Person and how this can be incorporated into your organisation\nLegislation and guidance on safeguarding children and young people\, particularly within the Welsh context\nEssential safeguarding measures that need to be in place\nThe ‘abuse of trust’ and how to remain alert to potential sexual offences within the organisation\nAssessing concerns about a child and making a referral to social services if necessary\nThe statutory child protection system and what may be expected of you\nConfidentiality and good record keeping\nDiversity and the additional vulnerabilities for some children\n\nBook via the Children in Wales website.
