SUMMARY:Cardiff Carnival
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 9th August will see the 25th Anniversary Cardiff Carnival\, organised by SWICA Carnival\, transform the city centre with a riot of flamboyant carnival art\, colour and style – including over 600 costumed paraders and musicians in Wales’ biggest and most vibrant parade. Cardiff Carnival 2014 is a full day of celebration including 16 street performances in The Hayes (10.30am to 3.30pm) featuring the very best of Welsh carnival acts: free street entertainment for all the family as part of Cardiff Festival. Expect thrilling high-energy performances including samba drumming\, funky street bands as well as belly dancing\, capoeira\, world music\, family-friendly burlesque\, magic shows and surprise flashmobs. SWICA Carnival’s own flamboyantly costumed Carnival Crew will perform Brazilian drum and dance to kick things off on The Hayes at 10.30am.   Cardiff Carnival 2014 climaxes with the Finale Parade leaving University of South Wales\, Atrium\, at 3.30pm.   The route will take the parade down Churchill Way to Queen Street and on to St Mary’s Street and The Hayes.   Steve Fletcher\, SWICA Carnival Artistic Director who founded Cardiff Carnival in 1990 says “This year the Carnival Camp\, where the costume making and dance workshops are held\, has been busier than ever before.   “I can guarantee that the quality of the work produced by the community participants under the direction of SWICA Carnival’s team of expert artists and makers really does exceed and outshine anything we have produced in the past 24 years and confirms the annual Cardiff Carnival is in the premier league of UK carnivals. “I’m delighted that everyone involved has risen to the challenge to make the 25th anniversary Cardiff Carnival the most memorable in its history.” For further details\, contact SWICA Carnival direct on info@swicacarnival.co.uk
