SUMMARY:Motivational Interviewing
DESCRIPTION:This popular evidence based approach has been around for nearly 30 years and been taken up by a wide range of practitioners in health and social care fields. It originated from work in the substance misuse field. If you work outside those areas please contact us on 02920 529002 for further information on this training.   \n This course will provide learners with:\n\nA clear understanding of the goals\, concepts\, processes and skills of Motivational Interviewing.\nA chance to practice the skills with pre-prepared scenarios and your own material.\nAn opportunity to identify\, distinguish and encourage the types of language that predict behaviour change.\nA chance to explore how workers and clients contribute to discord in the relationship (formerly described as ‘resistance’).\nA chance to reflect on the different types of settings and behaviour changes this approach can be utilised with.\nAn opportunity to evaluate the potential effectiveness of applying this approach in your work\n\n The course will involve small and large group work\, DVD excerpts and case discussion. Participants need to be prepared to come and work hard\, but have fun! \nBook your place by phoning (029) 2052 9002 or emailing info@newlinkwales.org.uk

SUMMARY:"Keeping Our Children Safe" Training for Designated Person for Child Protection
DESCRIPTION:A two-day Children in Wales course \nAll children have the right to live lives free from abuse and neglect but recent events highlight\, yet again\, how difficult it can be for so many adults to recognise\, and act on concerns about the safety or welfare of a child.  The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that all organisations concerned with children should work towards what’s best for each child.  The Designated Person for Child Protection has a vital role within organisations helping to ensure that adequate safeguards are in place and that necessary action is taken when concerns about a child are raised.   \nThis two-day training course will consider:   \n\nThe role of the Designated Person and how this can be incorporated into your organisation\nLegislation and guidance on safeguarding children and young people\, particularly within the Welsh context\nEssential safeguarding measures that need to be in place\nThe ‘abuse of trust’ and how to remain alert to potential sexual offences within the organisation\nAssessing concerns about a child and making a referral to social services if necessary\nThe statutory child protection system and what may be expected of you\nConfidentiality and good record keeping\nDiversity and the additional vulnerabilities for some children\n\nFind out more and book via the Children in Wales website. \n

SUMMARY:SROI Practitioner Training
DESCRIPTION:Want to make your organisation’s activities more effective for your stakeholders? Interested in demonstrating your hard work to partners\, funders and social investors? \nAs a social enterprise or community organisation\, a continual concern is how to improve the quality of service you provide for your stakeholders. Combined with a pressure to spend money wisely\, it can sometimes be difficult to see where to innovate in your organisation. Given the additional pressures of maintaining accountability and transparency to investors and board members\, this can lead an organisation to rocky waters. \nSROI\, or Social Return on Investment\, can provide a solution. It is a framework for measuring\, managing\, reporting and accounting for social value which engages with stakeholders and analyses your activities through their eyes. This information can then guide an organisation’s strategy\, inform difficult decisions about where to invest resources to maximise social value and even act as an evaluative tool to highlight areas for improvement. \nInterested? \nSocial Value UK’s 2-day practitioner training provides a thorough overview of SROI from two main angles. Day one is a practical\, step-by-step introduction to the SROI process\, beginning with some theory and going onto the hands-on development of an impact map – the heart of the SROI process – and exploration of appropriate real life examples. \nDay two covers more in depth theoretical issues behind SROI including valuation techniques and overclaiming\, as well as discussing examples of best practice at different levels of rigour and for different audiences. \nAll training is delivered by Social Value UK Accredited SROI Practitioners and is suitable for any experience level. \nHow to Book and More InformationThe cost for the 2-day training including 1 year’s membership of Social Value UK is £575 +VAT. \nFor enquiries about availability\, bookings or cost please contact Clare Bentley\, 0151 703 9229\, clare.bentley@socialvalueuk.org \nwww.socialvalueuk.org/training/practitioner
