DESCRIPTION:This Cardiff Council course is for managers and senior staff working in social care. Participants should be in work roles providing the opportunity to deliver person-centred care and support. \nThe course is designed to provide an understanding of Person-Centred Care in the context of social care for domiciliary and residential staff. The day will cover person centred care planning\, creativity and communication in addition to issues around rights and capacity. SUMMARY:Heart Screening Wales
DESCRIPTION:12 young people die each week across the UK from an undiagnosed heart condition – that’s 12 too many. A simple ECG (electrocardiogram) will identify most cardiac abnormalities so that conditions can be managed. \nWelsh Hearts are pleased to be funding such a vital and life saving initiative. “It is our mission to help protect and promote the heart health of young people here in Wales. Many people still associate heart disease and heart attacks with older people\, however this is sadly not the case. But with screening we can make a massive difference and we will save lives. \n“This heart screening session is funded entirely by Welsh Hearts and costs £5000 per day. We are asking for a £10 deposit\, refunded to you on the day\, to ensure that we don’t have any missed appointments.” \nYou must be between 14 and 35 years old. This test is painless\, non-invasive and takes only 5-10 minutes to perform. \nPlease choose your preferred time slot below. If a time slot is missing\, it is because it may be already booked or may be a scheduled break. You will also need to complete the form in full. You will only be able to book one place at a time – so if you’d like to come along with a friend or as a group\, each person will need to make a separate booking to ensure we can collect the information we need. It would be particularly useful for those who work in planning\, housing and accommodation\, equality\, health\, education\, social services and the early years.    \nWhy should you attend this training?   \nIt will assist you to:  \n• Ensure effective engagement with the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities and Showpeople\, in your particular area  \n• Be understanding and informed in your interactions with people from the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities and Showpeople  \n• Be better able to assess the service needs that address the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities and Showpeople in Wales  \nAims  \nTo increase awareness about the cultural diversity in Wales\, to address issues and needs of Gypsy\, Roma\, Travellers and others in Wales\, to inspire and improve the services and provision delivered to GRT communities and to generate trust and understanding between GRT communities and local authority service providers.   \nLearning Objectives   \n• To achieve a broader and more comprehensive understanding of the needs of GRT communities\, from a local authority perspective;  \n• To develop a level of knowledge that will enhance and inform local authority officers’ interactions with individuals and groups from the GRT communities in their areas and localities;  \n• To introduce knowledge regarding the important differences between Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities and Showpeople\, their cultures\, languages and origins\, insofar as is useful to participants in the training\, with the aim of inspiring best practice and improving service delivery;  \n• To introduce to participants examples of community members who are role models and who can challenge the prevailing stereotypes of Romani and Travellers or the negative images of Roma and Showpeople\, present in media and popular press.   \nOutcomes  \nBy the end the session participants will have:  \n• Increased their knowledge of the culture\, traditions and history of the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities (this includes a timeline of key historical events and legislation);    \n• Developed an understanding of diversity within the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller communities (that is\, who are Gypsies\, Roma and Travellers?);  \n• Increased their awareness regarding the prejudice and discrimination faced by Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller communities in Wales and more widely across the UK;  \n• Identified obstacles to access and attitudinal issues or barriers in education\, health\, employment\, accommodation\, safeguarding and other public services\, that inhibit the delivery of quality provision to GRT communities;  \n• Improved participants’ understandings of how to engage effectively with the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller community and what they can do to address exclusion and ensure inclusion in the delivery of services;  \n• Developed an Action Plan that will put their learning into practice\, in the workplace;  \n• Established a baseline of knowledge and support that can be accessed to assist officers.   \nThere will only be 50 places available so please book early to avoid disappointment. DESCRIPTION:Child sexual exploitation (CSE) involves under – 18′s in exploitative situations\, contexts and relationships.   Every year in Wales hundreds of children are being sexually exploited and in the wake of learning from Rotherham and other cities\, Children in Wales is offering a one day course to raise awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation. \nThis Children in Wales course gives anyone who works with children\, young people and families the opportunity to know their statutory responsibilities in dealing with exploited children\, how to identify children and young people who are at risk of CSE and spot the signs\, definitions and models of CSE and professional responses within the Welsh context. \nThis one day course will consider: \n\nDefinitions of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)\nWho is at risk\nWho are the perpetrators\nVulnerabilities and risk indicators\nProfessionals responses\nLegislation and guidance on CSE\nSERAF – the Welsh response to CSE\nConsent\nImpact of CSE on children\, families/carers and siblings\nLessons from Rotherham\nEffective working and partnerships\nPrevention and education\n\nWho the course is aimed at: \nProfessionals and practitioners working with children\, young people and families in social care\, health and education\, other statutory agencies\, voluntary and third sector organisations \nAbout the Trainer: \nCheryl has over 20 years’ experience of working in social care\, in a variety of roles including foster care\, child protection\, youth offending\, equality and diversity and domestic abuse.     Her experience and knowledge of child sexual exploitation comes from her work as a foster carer\, in youth offending and with charitable organisations working with children and young people.  She has been a qualified trainer for 8 years and delivers a variety of training to a wide range of professionals and practitioners.  She is also a qualified counsellor and independent mediator. \nBook via the Children in Wales website.
