SUMMARY:Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Training Programme: 'Tackling Inequalities Together'
DESCRIPTION:Addressing inequalities within neighbourhoods and communities across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. \nYou are invited to attend a training event being delivered by Dr Mike Grady of the internationally-renowned Marmot Review Team to help further understanding of the impact of inequalities on the population and to identify actions that work. \nA range of key partners have been invited to attend this event: partners representing the Integrated Partnership Board workstreams\, Neighbourhood Management Officers and Chairs\, and Communities First Officers and Chairs from both Cardiff and the Vale\, as well as those who attended the Health\, Social Care & Well Being Symposium held on 31st January 2012. \nCardiff has a life expectancy gap of 11.6 years between the most deprived and least deprived wards and a similar picture exists within the Vale of Glamorgan. Understanding of this gap in life expectancy and of inequalities in general has improved in recent years and developing and delivering evidence-based action to improve the health of those in greatest need is now the focus. This event will help continue to deliver actions that will have an impact. \nThe event will include presentations by Dr Mike Grady\, Marmot Review Team and Dr Sharon Hopkins\, Director of Public Health\, Cardiff & Vale University Health Board. Workshops on addressing inequalities through your work will be held as part of the afternoon session.   \nLunch and refreshments will be also be included therefore you will need to register for the event by Friday 16 March\, giving details of any special requirements.

SUMMARY:Working with Those Affected by the Substance Misuse of Others Level 3
DESCRIPTION:People who develop substance misuse problems usually have families and are often in contact with them. Sometimes they will be estranged from them. What ever the situation\, the impact that substance misuse can have on families and others close to the substance misuser\, is often profound. The Substance Misuse Strategy for Wales 2008-2018 notes the growing evidence that relatives and carers can play a vital role in helping substance misusers succeed in treatment and emphasises the need for providers and commissioners to work closely with families. This NewLink Wales course aims to raise awareness of the issues affecting concerned others and the types of interventions available for them. \nFind out more on the NewLink Wales website.
