SUMMARY:e-Safety: Supporting Parents to Keep Children Safe Online
DESCRIPTION:This one-day course aims to deliver a balanced\, non-sensationalist approach to help professionals inform and support parents in protecting children when using the internet. The course is aimed at a wide variety of practitioners working with children and families including those working for Families First\, Communities First\, Flying Start and foster carers. \nMany parents today feel unable to protect their children online. They feel powerless when faced with a technology they do not fully understand while their children seem completely at home with hi- tech\, web enabled gadgets. How can people working with families help parents to better protect their children? \nWith a constant flow of stories about online abuse in the media some parents may overreact restricting access to everything\, while others just feel overwhelmed\, keep their fingers crossed and hope it won’t happen to their child. Is there a safe way for children to use the internet’s opportunities for learning and fun\, while also avoiding the risks? How can we help parents support their children’s safe use of modern technology? \nThe course will look at some of the real risks and dangers and debate the concerns\, while also dispelling some of the myths and hoaxes. There will be an opportunity for practitioners to discuss issues that parents are raising and to have some hands on experience at creating safe settings on some of the most popular devices used by children. \nFind out more and book your place via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:Public Services working in partnership for better health and wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:About the seminar \nDo you recognise the need to change the way we work together in the Public Sector? Are you trying to implement change at an operational level? Do you want to learn from the experiences of public sector colleagues? Then read on..! \nPublic Services in Wales are continuing to face significant changes and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. The fact is we are all facing challenging times and no single organisation has the answers. However\, using new legislation\, working more collaboratively with other organisations\, adapting different cultures and learning we can identify the means to utilise the resources we have in very different ways. \nThis seminar is about how Public Services need to work better together to enable\, support and improve the wellbeing of citizens in Wales. This is underpinned by the principles of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act and the Social Services and Wellbeing Act. \nThis seminar will share real life experiences of people who have been\, and are currently\, users of Public Services. They will share their stories and the impact the services have had on their lives and their perspectives as a user of services. By hearing their perspectives\, delegates will have the opportunity to think about what this means in practice within their own organisations\, and how they work with others to achieve quality life for citizens. \nIn advance of the seminar\, we encourage delegates to think about challenges they are facing within their own organisations that would benefit peer discussion. In particular\, to think about   \n\nPartnership working \nCollaboration \nBehaviour and Culture change \nScaling up\nSkills and resources \nLeadership and management \n\nWalking away from this seminar\, delegates will be equipped with the tools and skills to help overcome the barriers to successful collaboration. There will be the opportunity to develop a virtual network of like-minded colleagues who will be able to offer support and guidance built from their experience of introducing service improvements through collaboration in its widest sense. \nWho is the seminar aimed at   \nThis seminar is aimed all public and third sector organisations in Wales\, in particular\, senior and middle managers in the following areas: \n\nLocal Government- Social Services\, Housing\, Education \nHealth  \nPolice Authorities\nFire and Rescue Authorities \nHousing \nSocial Enterprises\nNational Park Authorities \nCentral Government bodies \n\nIf you would like to secure a delegate place or if you would like to discuss any aspect of the seminar\, please email good.practice@audit.wales

SUMMARY:Understanding How to Safeguard the Welfare of Children & Young People – Accredited Training Level 3 through Agored Cymru
DESCRIPTION:A two-day Children in Wales course \nThis course is aimed at people who want to gain accreditation whilst learning about the current challenges in child protection and how practitioners can work with others to increase the protective factors for children that they work with. The course is appropriate for people working in a range of organisations including youth settings\, schools\, children’s daycare and residential settings\, also services providing support to children and families in the voluntary and private sector. This two day training will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss issues from practice exploring the complex and sensitive nature of keeping children safe in a variety of settings. \nParticipants will explore the roles of relevant partners\, the importance of accurate record keeping and appropriate information sharing\, taking on board when consent is required. Attendees will have the opportunity to consider what helps to make an effective referral when an organisation has concerns about the welfare of a child and what might be expected of them during the statutory child protection process\, including core group meetings and case conferences. The course will focus on a child centred approach to safeguarding and will offer participants the opportunity to analyse essential work place practices and policies in relation to keeping everyone safe. The issues of e-safety and bullying will also be addressed as these have a direct link to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people. \nFind out more and book via the Children in Wales website.
