SUMMARY:Introduction to Soft Outcomes and Distance Travelled
DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course \nThe Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014 came into force on 6th April this year and places a new focus on services supporting the well-being outcomes of the people they are working with.  The term ‘wellbeing’ is used to refer to the quality of people’s lives\, and covers both subjective and objective aspects.  Subjective well-being focuses on soft outcomes such as how people are feeling and how they perceive their lives and personal goals.  Objective well-being focuses on the conditions which affect those feelings such as health or education which are easier to measure in hard outcomes. Both of these perspectives are valuable for understanding children’s well-being. \nThis course is relevant for managers and practitioners who wish to demonstrate that their intervention has made a difference to outcomes for people they work with.  Budgets are tight and all organisations need to consider economy and efficiency\, but it is important to keep a focus on the effectiveness of services. This course will look at measuring the soft outcomes that your intervention has achieved for the people you work with. Participants will explore a range of methods that can be used with all groups – from children and young people to adults. \nFind out more and book via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:Cultural Awareness in Safeguarding Children
DESCRIPTION:One-day Children in Wales course \nUnderstanding cultural differences is an important component in effective working with families and children. SUMMARY:e-Safety: Supporting Parents to Keep Children Safe Online
DESCRIPTION:This one-day course aims to deliver a balanced\, non-sensationalist approach to help professionals inform and support parents in protecting children when using the internet. The course is aimed at a wide variety of practitioners working with children and families including those working for Families First\, Communities First\, Flying Start and foster carers. \nMany parents today feel unable to protect their children online. They feel powerless when faced with a technology they do not fully understand while their children seem completely at home with hi- tech\, web enabled gadgets. How can people working with families help parents to better protect their children? \nWith a constant flow of stories about online abuse in the media some parents may overreact restricting access to everything\, while others just feel overwhelmed\, keep their fingers crossed and hope it won’t happen to their child. Is there a safe way for children to use the internet’s opportunities for learning and fun\, while also avoiding the risks? How can we help parents support their children’s safe use of modern technology? \nThe course will look at some of the real risks and dangers and debate the concerns\, while also dispelling some of the myths and hoaxes. There will be an opportunity for practitioners to discuss issues that parents are raising and to have some hands on experience at creating safe settings on some of the most popular devices used by children. \nFind out more and book your place via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:Public Services working in partnership for better health and wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:About the seminar \nDo you recognise the need to change the way we work together in the Public Sector? Are you trying to implement change at an operational level? Do you want to learn from the experiences of public sector colleagues? Then read on..! \nPublic Services in Wales are continuing to face significant changes and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. The fact is we are all facing challenging times and no single organisation has the answers. However\, using new legislation\, working more collaboratively with other organisations\, adapting different cultures and learning we can identify the means to utilise the resources we have in very different ways. \nThis seminar is about how Public Services need to work better together to enable\, support and improve the wellbeing of citizens in Wales. This is underpinned by the principles of the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act and the Social Services and Wellbeing Act. \nThis seminar will share real life experiences of people who have been\, and are currently\, users of Public Services. They will share their stories and the impact the services have had on their lives and their perspectives as a user of services. By hearing their perspectives\, delegates will have the opportunity to think about what this means in practice within their own organisations\, and how they work with others to achieve quality life for citizens. \nIn advance of the seminar\, we encourage delegates to think about challenges they are facing within their own organisations that would benefit peer discussion.
