SUMMARY:Webinar: Why the Natural Resource Policy Matters to the Third Sector
DESCRIPTION:Whether your organisation is working to reduce poverty or strengthen the health\, housing\, integration\, education\, skills or overall well-being of our communities\, then the sustainable management of natural resources will matter to you. \nEnvironet’s natural resources are the cornerstones of our prosperity and quality of life. Yet there is increasing evidence that we are not using these in the best way to promote our economy or well-being. Worse still\, we are depleting them at an unsustainable rate with the negative consequences of this being felt hardest by the most vulnerable\, both here in Wales and further afield. \nThe Welsh Government is currently consulting on a Natural Resource Policy\, which will attempt to address this through 3 key themes: \n\nAccelerating Green Growth\nDelivering Nature-based solutions\nImproving Individual and Community well-being through a place-based approach\n\nOn 17 January\, Environet will be hosting a 30-minute webinar about this consultation with a presentation from Emily Finney from the Welsh Government’s Natural Resources Policy team. \nFind out more about the consultation\, the aims of the Natural Resource Policy and how you can share your views. \nTo book\, please contact environet@wcva.org.uk with your name and organisation.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Soft Outcomes and Distance Travelled
DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course \nThe Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014 came into force on 6th April this year and places a new focus on services supporting the well-being outcomes of the people they are working with.  The term ‘wellbeing’ is used to refer to the quality of people’s lives\, and covers both subjective and objective aspects.  Subjective well-being focuses on soft outcomes such as how people are feeling and how they perceive their lives and personal goals.  Objective well-being focuses on the conditions which affect those feelings such as health or education which are easier to measure in hard outcomes. Both of these perspectives are valuable for understanding children’s well-being. \nThis course is relevant for managers and practitioners who wish to demonstrate that their intervention has made a difference to outcomes for people they work with.  Budgets are tight and all organisations need to consider economy and efficiency\, but it is important to keep a focus on the effectiveness of services. This course will look at measuring the soft outcomes that your intervention has achieved for the people you work with. Participants will explore a range of methods that can be used with all groups – from children and young people to adults. \nFind out more and book via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:Cultural Awareness in Safeguarding Children
DESCRIPTION:One-day Children in Wales course \nUnderstanding cultural differences is an important component in effective working with families and children. Practitioners and managers can be reluctant to address child welfare concerns because they fear being accused of racism\, intolerance or prejudice. Getting the balance right between cultural sensitivity and making Westernised judgements on child welfare is difficult. \nThe aim of this course is to raise awareness of cultural\, ethnic and religious identities when considering safeguarding issues within asylum seeking\, refugee and migrant families. It will increase the understanding of particular safeguarding risks within families and communities and enhance confidence in addressing safeguarding issues with families. \nThe course is for anyone working with asylum seeking\, refugee or other BAME migrant families\, in statutory\, social care\, health or education\, community groups and refugee community organisations\, including Flying Start\, Families First\, Communities First\, IFST. \nBook via the Children in Wales website.
