SUMMARY:POVA Level 2: A morning of innovative delivery of safeguarding training
DESCRIPTION:Safeguarding Adults: It’s everybody’s business \nThe protection of vulnerable adults against psychological\, sexual\, emotional\, physical and financial abuse is powerfully explored in this unique interactive workshop. \nSessions are designed around carefully researched case studies exploring situations which have led to the abuse of adults. Drama and discussion are used to approach the issues faced by frontline staff and managers in an accessible way\, inspiring and shaping new con-versations about how best to respond in situations where adults are at risk.Drawing directly from National and Local Safeguarding Policies and Proce-dures for Adults\, Dignity in Care guidance and the Serious Case Review into the death of Steven Hoskin\, the three-hour workshop develops essential awareness of the individual roles and responsibilities of all staff and managers with regard to:– Recognising Abuse– Reporting Abuse– Preventing Abuse \nAFTA Thought is passionate about the live experience and our skilled actors and facilitators create scenarios which challenge perceptions and communicate critical messages with lasting impact.By creating a safe\, dynamic training environment\, a range of perspectives and alternative outcomes can be explored. Their goal is to provide frontline staff and managers with the knowledge and confidence to ensure nothing is missed in their day to day exposure to potential abuse situations.AFTA Thought delivers training for staff and managers working within the following areas:– Adult Service Providers– Care Homes– Health– Voluntary & Independent Sector– Housing \nThis ‘recognition and referral’ course takes place on Tuesday 20 May.

SUMMARY:'Tiger Brides' documentary screening
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a ground-breaking documentary called Tiger Brides. Between 1942 and 1952 about one million War Brides emigrated from 50 different countries to the United States “for the love of an American soldier’”. While the marriages between White GIs and foreign women are richly documented\, few know about the wives of Black GIs. These homesick Black servicemen would seek the attention of British women for companionship and marriage. Of the one million War Brides that came to the U.S.: 300-400\,000 were European; 40-70\,000 were British; and an estimated 75-100 were multi-ethnic Welsh War Brides from Cardiff\, Wales. “Tiger Brides” documents the voices of six (6) multi-ethnic British GI Brides from Tiger Bay (a multicultural community in Cardiff). To omit the vivid stories of these women would deny legitimate perspective from these eye-witnesses to World War II and the GI Bride experience.

SUMMARY:Attachment and its Role in Children's Lives
DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course   \nThis course is aimed at all those interested in the emotional development of babies and children\, and particularly those working with\, or supporting children and families in stressful circumstances. Attachment disorder has come to be understood as a major contributor to behavioural and emotional problems in children\, and in the development of personality disorders in adulthood. Understanding the importance of attachment in early development and how to recognize when family bonds are undermined are critical skills for those working with families. Practitioners also need skills in direct and systemic work to support children with attachment difficulties. This course therefore also describes the interventions that are available if you are working directly with children and their caregivers.  \n  \nThe course will explore:  \n – Why attachment matters – How attachment patterns are formed – What happens when attachment goes wrong – How observation can help us assess attachment – What we can do to strengthen and repair attachment relationships within families \nPrice:  Members £115  Non-members £135  \nFind out more and book your place via the Children in Wales website.

SUMMARY:South East Wales Participation Network (Theme: Co-production)
DESCRIPTION:The theme of the network event in May is co-production in public services.
