It would be particularly useful for those who work in planning\, housing and accommodation\, equality\, health\, education\, social services and the early years. \nWhy should you attend this training? \nIt will assist you to: \n\nEnsure effective engagement with the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities in your particular area\nBe understanding and informed in your interactions with people from the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities\nBe better able to assess the service needs that address the Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities in Wales\n\nAims \nTo increase awareness about the cultural diversity in Wales\, to address issues and needs of Gypsy\, Roma\, Travellers in Wales\, to inspire and improve the services and provision delivered to GRT communities and to generate trust and understanding between GRT communities and local authority service providers. \nLearning Objectives \n• To achieve a broader and more comprehensive understanding of the needs of GRT communities\, from a local authority perspective; \n• To develop a level of knowledge that will enhance and inform local authority officers’ interactions with individuals and groups from the GRT communities in their areas and localities; \n• To introduce knowledge regarding the important differences between Gypsy\, Roma\, Traveller communities and their cultures\, languages and origins\, insofar as is useful to participants in the training\, with the aim of inspiring best practice and improving service delivery; \n• To introduce to participants examples of community members who are role models and who can challenge the prevailing stereotypes of Gypsies and Travellers or the negative images of Roma\, present in media and popular press; \nOutcomes \nBy the end the session participants will have: \n• Increased their knowledge of the culture\, traditions and history of the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller communities (this includes a timeline of key historical events and legislation);   \n• Developed an understanding of diversity within the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller communities (that is\, who are Gypsies\, Roma and Travellers?); \n• Increased their awareness regarding the prejudice and discrimination faced by Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller communities in Wales and more widely across the UK; \n• Identified obstacles to access and attitudinal issues or barriers in education\, health\, employment\, accommodation\, safeguarding and other public services\, that inhibit the delivery of quality provision to GRT communities; \n• Improved participants’ understandings of how to engage effectively with the Gypsy\, Roma and Traveller community and what they can do to address exclusion and ensure inclusion in the delivery of services; \n• Developed an Action Plan that will put their learning into practice\, in the workplace; \n• Established a baseline of knowledge and support that can be accessed to assist officers. \nThere will only be 50 places available so please book early to avoid disappointment. DESCRIPTION:Funding programmes presentation with Mike Lewis\, Wales Grant Manager\n**FREE OF CHARGE ** \nGlamorgan Voluntary Services and Cardiff Third Sector Council are jointly organising a presentation by the Lloyds Bank Foundation. \nLloyds Bank Foundation is seeking to invest in registered charities that support people at critical points in their lives to break out of poverty and disadvantage\, promoting practical approaches to achieving lasting change. Mike Lewis\, Wales Grant Manager\, will be joining the session to discuss the Foundation’s funding programmes and priorities and to answer your questions. \nAre you eligible to apply? \n■ Must be a Registered Charity or Charitable Incorporated Organisation. \n■ Have an annual income of more than £25\,000 and less than £1m\, with at least one year of published accounts and free reserves of less than 12 months. \n■ Have a track record of direct service delivery\, operating mainly in England and Wales working with people 17 years and older. \n■ Charities are expected to be working with people experiencing multiple disadvantage at times of transition. The work must be `targeted` and `holistic` and involve ongoing support (no short-term intervention). A list of these transitions are available on the Foundation’s website. \n■ Applicants must have a clear plan of activities and an idea of what they expect to achieve. \n■ Charities will also need to meet the Foundation’s other eligibility criteria. \nBefore registering for the event\, please visit the Foundation’s website:  and read their eligibility guidance and complete the eligibility checklist. It is recommend that you read all the ‘How to apply’ section (the eligibility checklist is right at the end of this section of the website). This will give you an indication of your potential eligibility. DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course  \nThis Children in Wales course is for all practitioners working with young people who want to increase their understanding of why young people self harm\, and how best to support those who do. Research has shown that self harm is viewed as a highly sensitive topic by professionals\, parents and young people\, with issued regarding stigma and the misunderstanding of causes leading to uncertainty as to how best to support young people who self harm.
