DESCRIPTION:This NewLink Wales course offers a useful and in-depth exploration of Personality Disorder within the context of substance misuse. There has been a lot of debate on these issues over recent years and this session aims to challenge the myths that surround this subject area. The impact of Personality Disorder and substance misuse on teams of professionals will also be explored with the aim of raising awareness of transference issues. \n   \nBy the end of the course participants will have: \n – 1. An understanding of Personality Disorder\, its prevalence and diagnostic criteria – 2. An understanding of the role played by substance misuse in Personality Disorder and how this impacts on treatment – 3. A greater knowledge of how working with Personality Disorder can often lead to conflicts within substance misuse teams – 4. An overview of good practice recommendations for working more effectively with this client group. \n   \nDr Tracy Carlson is a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist with a particular interest in Personality Disorders. She has vast experience in this area which includes a number of roles working within in-patient secure settings as well as in the community.
