SUMMARY:Improving Welsh Procurement
DESCRIPTION:An Institute of Wales conference in association with Constructing Excellence in Wales \nPublic procurement is an important driver for economic development and employment. At some £4.3 billion the Welsh public sector’s annual procurement budget is one of the main economic policy levers in Welsh hands. But how effectively are we using it? Are we achieving the right balance between risk management and creativity in public procurement\, especially with contracts below the EU thresholds? Are we encouraging Welsh SMEs to learn from the tenders they make by providing adequate feedback? How are we addressing the skills gap that exists amongst Welsh procurement professionals? How can we push the profile of procurement management higher up the policy ladder? \nThis conference explores how the creative use of public procurement can help us maximise the impact of public spending in Wales. \n – £56 for IWA members – £70 for non-members – £90 for a conference place and 1 year’s IWA membership\, which includes unlimited digital access to all IWA publications \nFor a full conference programme please click on the following link http://www.iwa.org.uk/en/events/view/194

SUMMARY:What the changes in pension provision mean for you
DESCRIPTION:This WCVA event is hosted by Keegan & Pennykid Insurance Brokers. \nFor many employers\, automatic pension enrolment has already begun. And in January 2013\, the Retail Distribution Review comes into effect. Both will mean critical changes to your group’s pension provision arrangements. \nThe session will recap your auto enrolment duties to ensure your current pension scheme meets its obligations\, and consider how to implement an Employee Salary Sacrifice Scheme to enable contributions to be made to a pension without reducing an employee’s take home pay. \nYou’ll also look the Retail Distribution Review\, which will see the abolition of Commission payments and the introduction of Advisor Charging – which will directly affect how you and your employees are charged for financial advice. \n  \nYou can book your place at this FREE seminar here.

SUMMARY:Coffee shop debate: The Future of Work - with Norma Jarboe OBE
DESCRIPTION:FREE ENTRY \nAs Director of Opportunity Now\, Norma Jarboe led the UK’s largest employer organisation seeking to advance women in the workplace. Her work in diversity led to a keen interest in the workplace of the future and what it will mean for both men and women. On leaving Opportunity Now\, she produced a thought piece\, Tomorrow’s Workplace: Are you fit for the future?\, which looks at the social and economic trends transforming today’s workplace and the implications for employers wishing to attract and retain the best talent.  \nWealth creation is now being driven by knowledge workers who want to work differently than did  industrial workers of the past century. They now account for over 40% of all employment in the UK and are growing. Empowered by technology they are able to work across borders\, time and space and want greater flexibility in the way they work. They alsowant flatter organisational structures and work that has meaning and social value.   \nLong-term demographic changes mean that demand for knowledge workers in Europe will outstrip supply. This is resulting in a workforce across four generations. How will these generations work effectively in teams and manage one another? How will employers be able to recruit and retain the best from this talent pool? \nMost importantly\, what does the future of work mean for Welsh employers in terms of challenges as well as opportunities? Come and share your thoughts on 6th November. \nThis Institute of Welsh Affairs debate has limited spaces. Call (029) 2066 0820 to register email emmabrennan@iwa.org.uk

SUMMARY:Parental Alienation
DESCRIPTION:FNF – BOTH PARENTS MATTER CYMRU is delighted to invite you to a seminar on parental alienation. \nThere are many reasons why a child becomes alienated from a parent but whatever the route\, the result is\, for parents\, akin to a living bereavement. Research shows us that the impact of this on children and families can be devastating. \nThe seminar will explain the concept of the alienated child\, the research evidence that supports this and will highlight best practice when protecting the rights of children. It will also stimulate discussion about the concept in the context of the Welsh Government’s Children’s Rights Measure 2011. \nKaren Woodall is the Director of the Centre for Separated Families\, a charity working with everyone affected by family separation. She is the author of several publications on children and families including Putting Children First published by Piatkus and Oxfam. Karen is a family therapist working in the High Courts with conflicted families where children have rejected a parent.
