DESCRIPTION:Learning Disability Wales is holding a training session on Learning Disability Awareness in Cardiff. This is an excellent opportunity for you to hear peoples stories and explore how you can have a positive effect when working with people with a learning disability. \n This training will help you work and act in a more inclusive way by understanding more about people with a learning disability and the issues affecting them in everyday life. \n It will look at the experiences of people with a learning disability and how services and society affect their lives. SUMMARY:Poverty and welfare reform: exploring the impact on homelessness and housing-related support
DESCRIPTION:09:00 – 16:30\, Wednesday 11 July 2018\, Cardiff; £107.00 + VAT members; £147.00 + VAT non-members \nThe day will consist of plenaries and workshops on a range of topics relevant to poverty in Wales and the impact of welfare reform\, including how this relates to people who use and deliver homelessness and housing-related support services.Topics include: \n\npoverty in Wales;\nwelfare sanctions;\ndevolution of Universal Credit powers;\nsocio-economic disadvantage and suicidal behaviour;\nyoung people and welfare reform;\ndevolution of housing costs in short-term supported accommodation;\nsocial security for vulnerable people\, and\nthe Valleys taskforce.\n\nWe will hear from senior representatives from academia\, government\, housing associations and charities about addressing poverty and its effects. Speakers include (with others to be confirmed): \n\nHelen Barnard – Head of Analysis\, Joseph Rowntree Foundation;\nAlan Budge – Associate\,  Participatory Budgeting Partners;\nKatie Dalton – Director\, Cymorth Cymru;\nLinda Davis – Head of Welfare Reform & DWP Relations\, Welsh Government;\nProfessor Sarah Johnsen – Professorial Fellow\, Institute for Social Policy\, Housing and Equalities Research ;\nMaureen Howells – Deputy Director\, Tackling Poverty\, Welsh Government Jules Oldham – Head of Policy & Operations\, Homeless Action Scotland.\n\nThis is an all-day event\, with lunch and refreshments provided.
