SUMMARY:Prenatal Alcohol Exposure and the Lifelong Effects: Are we really doing enough?
DESCRIPTION:NewLink Wales training course \nFoetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is the leading\, known\, preventable intellectual disability and is only caused by prenatal alcohol exposure. International studies have suggested that 1 in 100 people may have FASD; other studies have suggested that 5 in 100 people have this condition\, meaning that there could statistically be between 8000 and 40\,000 babies born a year with this condition in the UK\, though it is unlikely that many would be diagnosed. Naturally these babies grow up and will require support throughout their lives. \nBy the end of the course participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify the causes of FASD\nExplore the long term effects of FASD on young people and adults\nExplain the difference between FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and FASD\nDiscuss the behaviours and needs of someone with FASD throughout their different life stages\nRelate FASD development to the style of support and type of work being delivered\n\nFind out more on the NewLink Wales website.

SUMMARY:Wales Fuel Poverty Conference
DESCRIPTION:NEA Cymru Annual Conference – Looking to the Future: Warmer and Healthier Homes for All \nHelp shape the next Welsh Government’s priorities for action. \nThe theme of the 2016 conference\, which is sponsored by Wales and West Utilities\, is ‘Looking to the future: Warmer and Healthier Homes for All’ and will be taking place at a key time when we look ahead to the May elections to the National Assembly for Wales and discuss the key challenges and opportunities for the next Welsh Government to tackle our cold homes crisis. \nWe know that the cost and suffering caused by fuel poverty is likely to increase significantly in the future if we do nothing. So how do we reduce the pressure on overstretched NHS resources dealing with the consequences of cold-related illness? The conference will bring together representatives from a diverse range of organisations and sectors in Wales including the private\, commercial\, health and voluntary sectors to debate and explore the key actions needed to create warmer and healthier homes for people in Wales. \nThere will also be an opportunity to find out what is happening across the UK\, looking at different schemes and approaches to tackling fuel poverty across the four nations. \nRead more and book via the NEA website.
