SUMMARY:Cultural Awareness in Safeguarding Children
DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course \nUnderstanding cultural differences is an important component in effective working with families and children. Practitioners and managers can be reluctant to address child welfare concerns because they fear being accused of racism\, intolerance or prejudice. Getting the balance right between cultural sensitivity and making Westernised judgements on child welfare is difficult. \nThe aim of this course is to raise awareness of cultural\, ethnic and religious identities when considering safeguarding issues within asylum seeking\, refugee and migrant families. It will increase the understanding of particular safeguarding risks within families and communities and enhance confidence in addressing safeguarding issues with families. \nThe course is for anyone working with asylum seeking\, refugee or other BAME migrant families\, in statutory\, social care\, health or education\, community groups and refugee community organisations\, including Flying Start\, Families First\, Communities First\, IFST\, etc. \nThis course will include: \n\nChild protection through a cultural lens\nCultural perspectives on parenting in immigrant families arriving in Wales\nFemale Genital Mutilation\, ‘Honour’ Violence\, Forced Marriage\, Abuse Linked to a Belief in Witchcraft\nPromoting positive parenting in immigrant families\n\nBook your place via the Children in Wales website.
