SUMMARY:Thinking about the Unthinkable: Child Sexual Abuse
DESCRIPTION:A two-day Children in Wales course\nChild sexual abuse is in the media like never before\, but the extent of the abuse and the variety of ways children are sexually abused can be overwhelming. The aim of this course is to help us disentangle the subject so we can think clearly and safely\, thus enabling us to better protect children. \nDay One: concerns have been expressed that with all the focus on professional and institutional abuse\, sexual abuse within the family is still being overlooked.  \nWe will consider: \n\nThe grooming process and pre-conditions for sexual abuse\nIndicators that may alert us to child sexual abuse\nWays to assess and promote the protective capacity of the non-abusing parent\nThe short and long term effects of child sexual abuse and the therapeutic needs of the child\nThe effect that child sexual abuse can have on the professional network around the child\nWays to encourage and build a protective environment \n\nDay Two: will focus on abuse outside of the immediate family. We will consider: \n\nHow an individual can abuse within an institution\nHow an abuser can ‘hide in plain sight’\nWhat an organisation can do to create a protective environment\nChild sexual exploitation: how to recognise the danger signals\nSexually harmful behaviour by children and young people\nSexual bullying and sexual aggression in young people’s relationships \n\nFind out more and book your place via the Children in Wales website.
