SUMMARY:Housing and Immigration
DESCRIPTION:Only 2% of the UK’s migrants live in Wales\, but numbers here have almost doubled and now about 5% of the Welsh population are born outside the UK. \nImmigration law is complex\, European free movement rules in flux and housing workers face increasing problems in working out eligibility for council waiting lists and homelessness services.  Now the Westminster government wants to roll out a new and controversial proposal to get private landlords to check the immigration status of all new tenants and anyone living with them. \nThis course will: \n\nexplain how immigration control works\nupdate you on the latest law\, caselaw and developments in relation to the housing rights of EU citizens\nshow how these relate to eligibility criteria for council accommodation and homelessness services\nhelp you prepare for the “right to rent” laws introduced by the 2014 Immigration Act” and other  ever evolving  Westminster  interventions\n\nAnyone with an interest in and acquaintance with housing would help benefit from this Shelter Cymru one-day course. \nBook online

SUMMARY:State Aid: What does it mean for third sector organisations?
DESCRIPTION:European Union State Aid rules are designed to regulate competition in order to maintain a level playing field in the European single market. The rules apply to all public funding (not just European funding) that is given to organisations involved in economic activity (‘undertakings’). \nThird sector organisations are facing challenges in the application of State Aid rules within our funding environment so WCVA is hosting two awareness raising events (one in Merthyr and one in Rhyl) covering the basic principles of State Aid\, the ‘five tests’\, block exemptions and how the rules may be interpreted in a third sector context. The events will also seek to gain input from the sector to inform WCVA’s future work in this area. \nMore details coming soon\, please register your interest by emailing eventsadmin@wcva.org.uk

SUMMARY:Austerity and Older People: Building Supportive Communities
DESCRIPTION:Age Alliance Wales would like to invite you to this event. \nWales is working towards becoming a good place to grow old; we have an older people’s strategy\, a commissioner for older people and new legislation for social services which all demonstrate that\, at a strategic level\, we are fully committed to achieving our goal. \nAge Alliance Wales believes that the focus now needs to shift towards implementation. The Welsh Government needs to support the development of social networks and preventative initiatives that can underpin and stimulate community activity and enable all older people to live a full and active life. \nAge Alliance Wales would like to invite you to an event to discuss the challenges facing older people experiencing cuts to their local servicesand where we will outline their manifesto for the Assembly elections (download the manifesto from at www.agealliancewales.org.uk/briefings-publications). They will also share examples of good practice and identify ways to work with older people to build vibrant community networks and services. \nWe are inviting older people from across Wales to attend the event and meet with AMs and researchers. \nLunch will be provided \nPlease could you send confirmation of whether you will be able to attend to: malcolm.andrews@agealliancewales.org.uk
