SUMMARY:Launch of Disability Wales’s Disabled People's Manifesto: Creating an Enabling Wales
DESCRIPTION:Event sponsored by Jenny Rathbone AM \nThe Disabled People’s Manifesto calls upon the Welsh Government include: \n\nInclusion of an Independent Living (Wales) Bill in the Legislative Programme for the Fifth Assembly 2016-21\n\n\nWelsh Government and the National Assembly for Wales to recognise and pay due regard to their responsibilities in fully implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People (UNCRPD) across government policy and legislation\n\n\nA Commission of Inquiry involving disabled people and their organisations to consider options to strengthen the enforcement of disabled people’s rights\, equality and independence in Wales\, including devolving powers over equality legislation to Welsh Government\n\n\nEradication of disability poverty in Wales by 2030\n\n\nA determination to tackle Disability Hate Crime must be shown by leaders.\n\nOn 5 May 2016\, disabled people and their families and Carers across Wales will cast their votes in the National Assembly for Wales Elections. \nDisabled people make up over 20% of the population in Wales\, which has a higher proportion of disabled people than other nations and regions of the UK. \nDisabled people across Wales tell us that lack of enforcement of rights together with the impact of UK Government welfare reforms and cuts in public services have led to a loss of independence\, an increase in poverty and left many feeling isolated and fearful for the future. \nThe Manifesto calls to action developed by disabled people around Wales are aimed at tackling these challenges and creating an Enabling Wales where disabled people truly experience their rights and equality as citizens of a modern inclusive nation\, contributing fully to its social and economic success. \nFind out more on the Disability Wales website. \nPlease contact Kelly Stuart Kelly.stuart@disabilitywales.org or telephone: 029 2088 7325 to confirm your attendance and whether you have any access and/or dietary requirements.
