SUMMARY:Motivational Interviewing training
DESCRIPTION:This popular evidence based approach has been around for nearly 30 years and been taken up by a wide range of practitioners in health and social care fields. It originated from work in the substance misuse field. If you are new to work in this arena or came on a course many years ago and feeling very rusty\, this NewLink Wales two-day course is an ideal opportunity to learn or relearn the basics of the approach and put them into practice. \n Cost: Fully funded \nPlease note this course is for workers from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. If you work outside those areas please contact NewLink Wales on (029) 2052 9002 for further information on this training.    \n This course will provide learners with: \n\nA clear understanding of the goals\, concepts\, processes and skills of Motivational Interviewing.\nA chance to practice the skills with pre-prepared scenarios and your own material.\nAn opportunity to identify\, distinguish and encourage the types of language that predict behaviour change.\nA chance to explore how workers and clients contribute to discord in the relationship (formerly described as ‘resistance’).\nA chance to reflect on the different types of settings and behaviour changes this approach can be utilised with.\nAn opportunity to evaluate the potential effectiveness of applying this approach in your work\n\n The course will involve small and large group work\, DVD excerpts and case discussion. Participants need to be prepared to come and work hard\, but have fun!
