SUMMARY:Understanding How to Safeguard the Welfare of Children and Young People - Accredited Level 3 Training through Agored Cymru
DESCRIPTION:A two-day Children in Wales course (the second day is Thursday 19 March 2015)\nThis course is aimed at people who want to gain accreditation\, whilst learning about the current challenges in child protection and how practitioners can work with others to increase the protective factors for children that they work with. The course is appropriate for people working in a range of organisations including youth settings\, schools\, children’s daycare and residential settings\, also services providing support to children and families in the voluntary and private sector. This two-day training will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss issues from practice\, exploring the complex and sensitive nature of keeping children safe in a variety of settings. \nParticipants will explore the roles of relevant partners\, the importance of accurate record keeping and appropriate information sharing\, taking on board when consent is required. Attendees will have the opportunity to consider what helps to make an effective referral when an organisation has concerns about the welfare of a child and what might be expected of them during the statutory child protection process\, including core group meetings and case conferences. The course will focus on a child-centred approach to safeguarding\, and will offer participants the opportunity to analyse essential work place practices and policies in relation to keeping everyone safe. SUMMARY:Reforming local government: power to the people - regional policy event
DESCRIPTION:On 3 February 2015 the Minister for Public Services\, Leighton Andrews AM\, published a  White Paper which set out the Welsh Government’s ambitious plans for the future of Local Government in Wales. \nThe White Paper contains Welsh Government’s proposals for local democracy\, including the roles of elected members and senior officers\, community governance and community councils\, as well as scrutiny and audit. \nThe White Paper also looks to the third sector in a number of areas\, including as a source of community activists who could contribute to local democracy\, and as partners in community governance and supporting greater connections with communities. \nThese half-day regional events will provide delegates with opportunities: \n\n\nto hear from Welsh Government about their intentions for Local Government\n\n\nto raise views directly with Welsh Government\n\n\nto consider the implications of the White Paper for the third sector in Wales\n\n\nto help shape WCVA and the CVCs’ response on behalf of the third sector\n\n\nFind out more and book your place via the WCVA website.

This course is designed for individuals who have responsibility for supervising other members of staff.
