SUMMARY:Using the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards in Adult Social Care
DESCRIPTION:Half-day session run by Cardiff Council \nThere are two half-day sessions to choose from: \nMorning – 9.30am to 12.30pm \nAfternoon – 1.30pm to 4.30pm \n(Participants should aim to arrive up to 15 minutes before the session in order to register and avail themselves of refreshments). \nTarget group: Care assistants/support workers\, supervisors and managers working in social care. \nThe aim of this workshop based session is to set out the requirements of the deprivation of Liberty safeguards in adult social care. \nThe workshop will use case studies from social care to illustrate how the safeguards would apply in practice. \nObjectives \nAt the end of this workshop participants will be able to: \n\nOutline the background to the safeguards and why they are necessary in adult social care.\nRecall their duty to consult the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards code of practice\nList the key roles in the deprivation of liberty safeguards process\nIdentify service users who are at risk of being deprived of their liberty\nExplain the process of making an application for a standard authorisation\nDemonstrate when an application for an urgent authorisation must be made\nSet out the six requirements that need to be met for a deprivation of liberty to be authorised under the safeguards\nDescribe the action that can be taken should a service user subject to the safeguards leave the premises without permission\nHighlight the limits of a deprivation of liberty safeguard\nDescribe when a request for a review of an authorisation should be made\n\nState the conditions for ending a deprivation of liberty safeguard authorisation. \nCertificates will only be issued to participants who attend the full session.

SUMMARY:Personal Independence Payment
DESCRIPTION:This full-day Child Poverty Action Group course for advisers will examine the replacement of disability living allowance (DLA) for adults by a new ‘personal independence payment’ (PIP) from April 2013. Fully updated the course includes the final version of the PIP assessment regulations published in November 2012.   \nPIP will replace DLA for working age clients from  April 2013 onwards. With a different  structure to DLA and a completely new assessment criteria this course is essential for anyone advising  sick or disabled clients. The course uses practical examples to enable advisers to identify who can qualify for PIP and how they will be assessed. \nThe course covers: \n\nwho can claim PIP\nthe structure of  the benefit\nthe assessment criteria and process;\nclaims\, awards and appeals;\nthe migration of existing DLA claimants onto PIP.\n\nNOTE:  The course is suitable for anyone wanting to get to grips with the detail of PIP\, including experienced advisers who want to update their knowledge. \nBook online
