SUMMARY:Youth Mental Health First Aid
DESCRIPTION:  \nTwo-day course – the second day is on 10 February. \nYouth Mental Health First Aid (Wales) is for everybody. It is particularly relevant for those who work with adolescents and may come into contact with young people at risk of experiencing mental distress. \n   \n  \nCourse Aims:  \nYMHFA (Wales) aims to help participants: \n• Preserve life where a young person may be a danger to themselves or others \n• Provide help to prevent mental distress developing into a more serious state \n• Promote recovery of good mental health \n• Provide comfort to a young person experiencing mental distress \n   \nThe course covers: \nMental Health First Aid \nCommon mental health problems \nDepression \nAnxiety disorders \nPsychosis \nSubstance use disorders \nEating disorders \nNon-fatal deliberate self-harming behaviour \nNB All topics are regarding young people. \n     \nParticipants will learn: \nThe signs and symptoms of these mental health problems \nWhere and how to get help \nWhat sort of help has been shown by research to be effective. \n   \nCourse facilitator: Claire Leahy – Educational Psychologist \n  \n  \nTime: 9am to 5pm
