SUMMARY:Autism Spectrum Disorder Awareness
DESCRIPTION:This Cardiff Council training course is for care support staff /managers/anyone with an interest in developing awareness of Autism Spectrum Conditions. \nThe course/workshop will use a combination of PowerPoint presentations\, films and group exercises to explore Autism Spectrum Conditions. \n  \nThe course will include:  \n – The development of awareness of the conditions historically – Prevalence – Causes – The Triad of Impairments – Commonly occurring conditions/Behaviours associated with Autism. – Theoretical models that help to explain the condition – Sensory problems – Behavioural problems – How to help/support people on the Autism Spectrum \nFacilitator: Huw Davies (Specialist Psychology Practitioner)  \nLunch and refreshments will be provided. \nCertificates will only be issued to participants who attend the full session. \nPlease email David Brown at Cardiff Council at DavBrown@cardiff.gov.uk for a booking form.

SUMMARY:Prudent Healthcare - Can it save the NHS in Wales?
DESCRIPTION:The Health Minister has said the NHS in Wales must move towards a culture of ‘prudent health care’ – not providing treatment where it is unlikely to benefit the patient\, or could do harm – if it is to carry on providing an equitable service.   \nMark Drakeford said: “There is no choice but change in the Welsh NHS. The only choice is between planned change\, in which we attempt to take our destiny into our own hands and shape our collective futures\, or change that will happen to us in an unplanned\, unpredictable\, ungovernable way”.   \nThe Welsh Government wants to embed the principles associated with prudent medicine and health care in the NHS in Wales. They want clinicians to focus on doing the minimum necessary to benefit the patient\, for example\, the over-prescribing of antibiotics which in many cases makes little difference to the patient and has contributed to a build up of resistance to the drugs. But will it work? SUMMARY:National Autistic Society Female Asperger Social Group
DESCRIPTION:In Cardiff\, the NAS is piloting a female-only Social Group for individuals with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome or High-Functioning Autism. This is being piloted due to meeting the demand of providing a social group for females who would benefit from female only company. \nAs this group is still in the early stages\, NAS is looking to generate interest for individuals to join the group\, as well as look for volunteers to run the group with a paid member of staff.Activity: Chinese meal at the Oriental Garden
