DESCRIPTION:This course is being run by Cardiff Mind. \nWhat is ASIST? \n• ASIST is a “first aid” course that will equip anyone with the skills to intervene and save a life \n• Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a 2 day workshop that offers intensive training for front-line workers and community members \n• The emphasis is on teaching suicide first-aid\, to help a person at risk stay safe and seek further help as needed \n• ASIST provides practical training for caregivers seeking to prevent the immediate risk of suicide \n• It is the most widely used and researched suicide intervention skills training in the world \n Who is ASIST for? \n• ASIST is suitable for everyone – whether they are in a frontline position or as a concerned community member \n Why ASIST? \n• In-depth\, practical training course \n• Quality assured\, standardised format ensures consistency and establishes a common language and understanding throughout communities and front-line services \n• An effective intervention tool that combines the benefits of active listening with a practical\, directive approach \n• Empathetic\, person centred approach based on trust and communication  \n• Highly experienced trainers  \n Aims of the course: \nAfter the training\, you should be able to: \n• Recognise that caregivers and persons at risk are affected by personal and societal attitudes about suicide \n• Discuss suicide in a direct manner with someone at risk \n• Identify risk alerts and develop safe plans \n• Demonstrate the skills required to intervene with a person at risk of suicide \n• List the types of resources available to a person at risk\, including him or herself \n• Recognise that suicide prevention is broader that suicide first –aid and includes life promotion and self-care for caregivers  \nPrice: £160 per person for the two-day course which includes lunch\, refreshments and all materials.
