DESCRIPTION:A two-day course Children in Wales course \nDelegates will explore the role of the group facilitator\, and be able to use facilitation skills to engage constructively with group participants from a variety of groups running in different settings. The course will enable delegates to base their work on the principles of equal opportunities. The course will develop delegates’ understanding of and ability to use active listening and communication skills within a group context. \n By the end of course\, participants will:   \n – Understand the role of the facilitator – Understand some models of groupwork theory – Understand and manage group dynamics – Be able to identify some of the key knowledge and skills necessary for successful facilitation – Be able to share\, explore and practice facilitation techniques  – Be able to share some of the challenges involved in facilitation and consider ways of overcoming these

DESCRIPTION:Confirmed speakers and organisations for this year’s conference include: \nJohn Bird MBE \nIn September 1991 John Bird launched The Big Issue with Gordon Roddick and in November 1995 he launched The Big Issue Foundation to further aid the homeless. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the company and the Board of Trustees for the foundation. \nThe Big Issue magazine started as a local London venture\, but expanded with specific editions and services to other British cities\, and then to other countries. \nIn June 1995 John was awarded the MBE for ‘services to homeless people’\, and in 2006 he received the Beacon Fellowship Prize in the Creative Giving category. His book ‘The Necessity of Poverty’ was published last year. \n Nina Edge – Welsh Streets \nWelsh Streets are a group of residents who reject whole site demolition in favour of repair wherever possible\, delivering solid eco-friendly homes. They are joined by people hoping to renovate\, re-populate\, and reinvigorate the wasted Welsh Streets in Liverpool and support new-build on vacant plots. \n Viggo Nordvik from NOVA – Norwegian Social Research \nViggo is a senior researcher at NOVA\, one of the largest social research institutes in Norway.
