DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course \nThe teenage years can present the greatest challenges for parents and family members. Understanding the challenge young people themselves are facing provides both parents and professionals with the tools they need to allow teenagers to develop\, whilst at the same time still keeping them safe from the worst excesses of teenage behaviour. The course is for both practitioners working directly with teenagers\, and those involved in family support services. \n  \nThe course will include: \n – An exploration of teenage development – Why modern society makes this hard\, and what can be done to support teenagers – The role of both mothers and fathers – Ways to improve communication with teenagers – Strategies to manage teenage behaviour

DESCRIPTION:The Welsh Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs invites you to its 5th annual lecture. \nLecture to be delivered by Professor Keith Humphreys PhD\, Stanford University\, USA\, Professor of Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine and Career Research Scientist in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. \nThe event is chaired by Nia Roberts on the invitatino of Alun Ffred Jones AM. \nThe Lecture will begin at 6:30pm and will cover\, for the US and the UK\, the public polices put in place that support recovery\, the efforts of grassroots activists to promote recovery ideals\, and the evidence for the benefits of recovery oriented interventions. \nPlease RSVP by 31 May. You will have the option of going to a post-lecture meal at the Juboraj restaurant in Cardiff Bay.

More information can be found in the attachments and at www.realopportunities.org.uk \n    \nAbout Real OpportunitiesThe Real Opportunities Project is a £15\,431\,057 initiative that aims to support 14-19 year olds with Severe and Complex Needs\, a Learning Disability or an Autistic Spectrum Disorder in their transition to adulthood. The project is funded by the European Social Fund and match funded by the Local Authorities it is operating in. These are: \n – Bridgend – Caerphilly – Carmarthenshire – Merthyr – Neath Port Talbot \nThe aim of the project is to raise the aspirations and motivation of young people\, and increase their participation in learning\, volunteering\, employment and social opportunities\, so fostering a greater degree of independence and inclusion in the community. Young people have the opportunity to access a variety of training and accredited courses and activities to support the development of personal\, social and employment skills. Training and support is also offered to parents/carers\, professionals and employers.

SUMMARY:A seminar for trustees – Responsibilities when employing staff
DESCRIPTION:A WCVA seminar delivered by Hugh James Solicitors \nWhether an organisation is incorporated or unincorporated\, the trustees are ultimately responsible for general control and management of administration. This includes the employment of any staff that the organisation may take on\, so it is important that trustees are aware of their responsibilities when hiring.  \nResponsibilities when employing staff will examine the role of the employer to its employees\, from recruitment to termination of employment.
