SUMMARY:Changing Lives: Tackling Poverty - The Impact of Adult Learning
DESCRIPTION:A Conference for Adult Learners’ Week 2013      \nAdult Learners’ Week is a celebration of the impact that adult learning makes in Wales and serves as a powerful reminder of the contribution it can make in developing confident\, vibrant and successful communities. SUMMARY:WCVA Wales Charity Law Conference 2013
DESCRIPTION:Which way now? Guiding you through a maze of regulatory challenges \nIt’s all too easy for voluntary organisations to get lost in a maze of legal requirements\, and no map\, compass or even sat-nav will help. \nBut the Wales Charity Law Conference 2013 can help your organisation avoid getting lost among its legal obligations. \nThe speakers\, such as Dorothy Dalton of Governance magazine and Giselle Davies of Geldards\, will be there to guide you through the legislative jungle. Dorothy will speak on avoiding common governance pitfalls and making boards more effective\, while Giselle will pose the question – can you really be both a charity and a social enterprise? \n    \nThere will be plenty of invaluable workshops too\, including: \n – WCVA Criminal Records Unit on the new Disclosure and Barring Service – Geldards on the most recent and forthcoming changes to employment law – The Charity Commission on risk and regulation – Brewin Dolphin on managing investment risk in a low interest rate environment \nYou can read the full programme and book your place here\, and make sure your organisation keeps travelling in the right direction. \n    \nEarly bird rate – book before Monday 22 April to save £20 off the marked price! \n   \nAttending will qualify for up to four hours/four points CPD as an accredited course for Law Society requirement. \nFinancial support from Geldards has enabled WCVA to offer a small number of subsidised places for groups who may otherwise be unable to attend. See page 2 of the conference programme for more details.

SUMMARY:Early Attachment and the Importance of Language
DESCRIPTION:A Children in Wales event \nResearch shows that the way infants and young children acquire languages is a complex sophisticated process that begins way before they can use verbal skills. The first year in the child’s life is highly influential in terms of cognitive development\, social development and mental well-being. The quality of early childhood experiences is dependent on the relationship between them and the parents/carers and the environment in which they are raised. It is important that services that support young children and their families are alert to linguistic considerations and able to respond to the wishes and language use of the family. This event will look at research findings about early childhood and language. There will be an opportunity to consider how to integrate this knowledge with everyday work tasks\, whatever your own language skills may be. This is a bilingual event and there will be an opportunity to see how one service has managed to combine baby massage courses with best practice in terms of Welsh language use. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the need to be mindful of language considerations when offering a care service to babies and their parents/carers. The event will also offer information about the latest research findings on early language acquisition\, and discuss the implications of this for health workers and for services such as Flying Start and Families First\, there will also be an opportunity to discuss current practice and share experiences and knowledge.   \nThis event will be of particular benefit to all professionals working with infants and their families and those supporting parents\, including: \n – Health Visitors – Midwives  – Social Workers – Mental health professionals – Flying Start workers – Early Years workers – Those supporting parents \nAnyone with a policy lead or interest in early years or family support
