SUMMARY:Census data: Beyond 2011 event
DESCRIPTION:What is Beyond 2011? \nBeyond 2011 is the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) programme to consider possible approaches to meeting future user needs for small area and socio-demographic information in England and Wales. This is essentially reviewing what is currently produced by the Census and evaluating its use to help develop the approach needed. \n   \nWhy does this affect you? \nImprovements in technology and administrative data sources offer opportunities to modernise the existing Census approach. As a result some information may not be collected unless it is made clear the benefit that it brings. \nThe ONS and Welsh Government are working together to determine the user needs in Wales. They have been asked to support this work to ensure wide engagement within the public sector in Wales. They believe that this will differ from the needs in England due to the increased partnership working in Wales in relation to Local Service Boards and Single Integrated Plans. \n    \nThis free Welsh public sector engagement event will give you: \n·         an overview of the Beyond 2011 programme; \n·         an outline of the options currently available; and \n·         an opportunity to participate in workshop sessions to help us understand how Census data is being used in Wales. \n    \nWho should attend? \nWe need to hear from anyone that uses Census data to understand how small area data is used locally in Wales and how it adds value. You should be able to explain precisely why the data is being used\, how often\, in what form and at what geographical level. The workshop sessions will help you explain the benefit of this data being available to you. \n   \nRegistration process \nIf you would like to register for the event please complete the form on the Data Unit Wales website by 15 March 2013.

SUMMARY:Memories Café for the Black and Minority Ethnic Community
DESCRIPTION:Memories Cafes have been running within the Alzheimer’s Society for a number of years. They provide a safe\, comfortable and relaxed environment in which people affected by or concerned about dementia can meet with others in similar circumstances. It gives them an opportunity to discuss their concerns about the progression of the disease but also\, very importantly\, it gives them a chance to socialise in a space where their challenges are accepted and understood. Staff from the Alzheimer’s Society are always on hand to provide coffee\, biscuits\, information and support.   \nWith the support of Diverse Cymru\, the Alzheimer’s Society have established a new Dementia Café in Butetown. \nThis is a safe place for those in this community who are living with serious memory problems to meet others in a similar position and find out about other sources of support. The café particularly focuses on the Black and Ethnic Minority Communities where the awareness of dementia and the importance of timely diagnosis may not be as strong as in other communities.   \nThe café is open to those who have a diagnosis of dementia and to those who may be getting concerned about their own memory or that of someone they know. It is also open to health and social care professionals who may want to pick up information on dementia.    \nIf you would like more information on the café or if you would like to talk about setting one up in your area\, please contact the Cardiff and The Vale Alzheimer’s Society Helpline on (029) 2043 4960.

SUMMARY:The Launch of the Real Tenancy Test
DESCRIPTION:Cymorth Cymru and Learning Disability Wales would like to invite you to attend the Launch of the Real Tenancy Test at the Cymorth Cymru Annual Conference 2013. \nThe Real Tenancy Test is based on the principle that all people with a learning disability\, and others who reside as tenants in supported living settings\, should be able to exercise the same rights and responsibilities\, and enjoy similar levels of choice and control over their home environment as any other tenant regardless of their need for care and support services. \nThe Real Tenancy Test is a quick test which can be used in supported living and tenancy based supported housing to indicate the extent to which real tenancy rights are being delivered. It is designed to be used by support providers\, landlords and commissioners as a self assessment tool to help them understand how their approaches and practices work for\, or against\, the exercise of real tenancy rights by their tenants and service users\, and to indicate how improvements may be made where needed. \nWhilst some people with learning disabilities have the same rights\, choice and control in their homes as all tenants should\, there are others who have tenancies in housing and support services where they do not enjoy real rights\, choice and control. This can be because although they may have a legal and binding tenancy agreement\, their home operates more like a traditional residential care service\, where a care provider runs the home and commissioners ‘place’ people in their home. \nThe Real Tenancy Test is designed to get a quick understanding of whether a tenancy in supported living gives real tenancy rights.
