SUMMARY:IWA Conference: The second wave in Welsh school improvement Educational policies beyond PISA 2013
DESCRIPTION:In association with WJEC \nThe PISA results that rank Welsh school performance against other OECD countries will be published in December 2013\, with the likelihood that Wales will still be slipping behind. Welsh performance in these tests has achieved a much higher profile in the past two years as a result of a series of speeches and policy interventions by Education Minister Leighton Andrews. What is the best way forward for achieving better school performance and higher attainment across the curriculum by Welsh students? What are the relative roles of schools and local authorities? How can the Welsh curriculum be better tuned to maximise attainment? How can the parents of poor performing students be more engaged with the education process? \nThis conference examines what we should be planning now to ensure enhanced performance in our secondary schools in the next three years. \n – £56 for IWA members – £70 for non-members – £90 for a conference place and 1 year’s IWA membership\, which includes unlimited digital access to all IWA publications \nFor a full conference programme please click on the following link http://www.iwa.org.uk/en/events/view/207 \nTickets can either be booked on our secure website or alternatively if you prefer to contact us directly please email

SUMMARY:YMCA SleepEasy Challenge 2013
DESCRIPTION:   \nThe YMCA SleepEasy 2013 aims to raise the awareness about homelessness and has two objectives: \nTo enable YMCAs to continue to deliver opportunities for vulnerable people\, and to ensure that homeless services continue to grow and meet demand. \n – One of the most basic human rights is to have somewhere safe and stable to live\, yet homelessness continues to be one of the worst social problems in Britain today. \nOn Friday 8th March 2013\, YMCA is challenging YOU to leave your bed for the night and join them from 8pm until 6am – to spend a night sleeping ‘rough’ with the aim of raising money\, and awareness about homelessness and ‘sofa surfing’. The YMCA SleepEasy Event 2013 is a national YMCA fundraising event\, where people sleep rough so others don’t have to. \nThere is a £5 registration fee which will help stage the event and support emergency homeless services. You must register to take part and/or fundraise ASAP! To register and receive your sponsorship form\, please contact: Mandy Smithson\, YMCA SleepEasy 2013\, Cardiff YMCA Housing Association\, The Walk\, Roath\, Cardiff CF24 3AG\, or register and fundraise online though this link:
