SUMMARY:Recognising and Responding to Bullying Behaviours
DESCRIPTION:A one-day Children in Wales course \nEvidence and practice show that bullying affects the emotional well-being and mental health of children and young people. Research has identified that: \n  \n – Over 30% of Childline callers report that they have experienced bullying  – 2/3 of young carers are bullied at school  – “Bullying was a common theme\, with nearly every group citing this as a reason for non-attendance” (National Behaviour and Attendance Review 2009) – 18% of pupils in Year 6\, falling to 11% in Year 10\, admit to bullying other pupils   (All Wales Survey of Bullying in Schools 2009) \n  \nReducing bullying incidents is undoubtedly a shared objective between children\, young people\, professionals and practitioners alike\, however\, addressing issues raised by children and young people can often prove challenging and\, in some instances\, we may feel unable to resolve conflict.    \n  \nIn order to address issues around bullying it is vital that professionals and practitioners\, who work with children and young people\, have a shared understanding of what determines bullying behavior\, and feel confident in applying consistent approaches to prevent and tackle bullying. \n  \nThis one-day course will provide an overview of bullying\, addressing the following areas: \n  \n – Understanding bullying and the complexity of behaviours that arise through bullying incidents – Recognising when bullying may be occurring – Responding effectively to reports of bullying – Identifying strategies to prevent bullying behaviours \n  \n  \nPrice: \nMembers £115 \nNon-members £135 \n  \nThis course is also offered as in-house training\, please contact claire.sharp@childreninwales.org.uk for more information

SUMMARY:Introduction to Working in Partnership through Early Support
DESCRIPTION:FREE training \nEarly Support is the Welsh Government’s mechanism for achieving better co-ordinated and family-focused services for young disabled children and their families. \nChildren in Wales is now offering a one-day training course on working in partnership through Early Support. It will introduce you to the Early Support principles and their relevance to your life and/or you work; it will challenge you to think about the difference Early Support can make to you; it will help you to understand the range of resources and support Early Support can offer. \nDo you work with children with additional needs and disabilities? Or are you the parent or carer of a disabled child or a child with additional needs? If so…. \n – Are you willing and enthusiastic and would like to find out what Early Support can offer you? \n – Would you like to come to this one-day training course to learn more?  – The training is FREE and materials are included. \nEarly Support will be a key element of the statutory reform of statementing in Wales – this means that the training will be very useful to you because it will help you to take Early Support forward in your area. \nIf you attend this one-day Early Support course you will learn much more about the Early Support principles\, approach and resources. It will position you to improve support for families and implement a partnership approach to working. Note that this is a condensed version of the longer accredited Working in Partnership through Early Support course that has been offered in Wales over the last two years. \nIf you are interested in finding out more about this one-day training then please visit www.earlysupportwales.org.uk/training\, send an email to Marcia Jones at marcia.jones@childreninwales.org.uk or call her on (029) 2034 2434.
