SUMMARY:Volunteering in a digital age
DESCRIPTION:This conference is brought to you by WCVA and Communities 2.0.‘Social media\, mobile technology\, Skype\, webinars\, apps\, the Cloud… What does all this mean? And what’s it got to do with volunteering?’ \nDigital technology is an increasingly emergent force in volunteering\, but the rapid pace of this new way of doing things can be unnerving for even the most tech-savvy of organisations. \nThat’s why WCVA and Communities 2.0 have come together to stage a two-day conference\, ‘Volunteering in a digital age’\, which aims to clear up just what we mean by ‘digital technology’ and how it can benefit groups from across the third sector. It will provide guidance on social media\, address the issue of digital inclusion and uncover how to harness this technology to create new ways of working and reach out to potential new volunteers. \n  \nFull details of the conference will be available soon but highlights will include: \n – Jane Hutt AM\, Minister for finance and the leader of the House\, on digital inclusion – a vision for Wales – Sangheet Bhullar\, Founder of  WISEKIDS and Digital and People on the 21st century digital citizen – Workshops covering topics such as digital media and the Welsh language; developing a successful social media strategy; using new technology to inspire and engage volunteers\, and encouraging the digital inclusion of older people. – Cathryn Marcus of Communities 2.0 on the Communities 2.0 Digital Champions Scheme. DESCRIPTION:Fully booked – another date will be organised soon \nTurn2us helps anyone in financial need to access the money available to them through welfare benefits\, charitable grants and other financial help\, using their website at www.turn2us.org.uk or their freephone telephone helpline. \nFor anyone offering advice and support in an Intermediary role\, Turn2us also has additional services and tools and is currently providing free training on how to effectively use the one stop website to help their clients. \nOver 3 hours\, the training session on the live website will enable each Intermediary to; \n• Undertake welfare benefits entitlement checks \n• Identify appropriate charities to approach for grants for individuals \n• Undertake on-line enquiries and applications \n• Register their own Turn2us account to save\, manage\, analyse\, and update searches \n• Search the Turn2us money management resources for information to help develop client financial capacity \nThis training will benefit any workers or volunteers involved in supporting individuals in financial need who may not have the resources to use Turn2us themselves. The training is provided with the support of Elizabeth Finn Care.

SUMMARY:Welsh Government consultation event
DESCRIPTION:The Welsh Government is consulting on proposals for reform of the legislative framework for special educational needs (SEN). The proposals are supported by both the  Minister for Education and Skills and the Minister for Health and Social Services.The consultation was launched on 26/06/2012 and will close on 19/10/2012. \nThe current legislation is over 30 years old and there is evidence across Wales to prove the need for reform. \nThey are proposing to replace the statutory framework for the assessment and planning of provision for children and young people with SEN with a simpler more person centred and integrated system that will beneficial to all.Practitioners and professionals are invited to attend\, specifically to explore the multi agency approach proposed and the actual tools/process being developed.
