DESCRIPTION:Course aims: \nThis Learning Disability Wales course aims to promote employment for disabled adults by providing an overview of how the benefit system affects disabled adults who are in or entering work. The course will identify how work and earned income affects the benefits that disabled adults claim. The course aims to help participants maximise the entitlement for those that they support who have\, or are moving into\, paid employment. \n Designed for:Anyone working in a support\, care or advice role for a disabled adult. It is an introductory level course\, and is designed to raise awareness of benefits and would not include any benefit calculations.

SUMMARY:Human Rights Tour
DESCRIPTION:The British Institute of Human Rights’ annual Human Rights Touris coming to Cardiff on 17 September. They are keen to have as many voluntary organisations involved in the Tour as possible. Their aim is to raise awareness of human rights in the local community.  \nThe event is FREE and will consist of 4 sessions broken up by coffee breaks and a lunch break:Session 1: The origins of Human Rights – An introduction to the overall concepts and ideals at the heart of human rights – A look at the international legislation – A historical perspectiveSession 2: Protecting Human Rights – How practical are human rights? – How useful are the international mechanisms? – How does the Human Rights Act differ?Session 3: The Human Rights Act – Which rights are covered by the Act? – How it works and where the value lies – Examples of the Human Rights Act at workSession 4: The struggle today – The threat to human rights: the political climate and the current discourse – The Commission on a Bill of Rights – What you can do to get your voice heard \n   \nThe events will adopt a workshop format: the sessions will be interactive and facilitated towards giving participants the chance to air their views and debate the issues.
