SUMMARY:'ASIST' - suicide prevention
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Welsh Assembly Government‘s suicide prevention strategy emphasises the importance of early intervention\, and the role that all front-line services should play in responding to individuals in need\, at the point at which they request help. ASIST is a key strand of the National Suicide and Self Harm Reduction Action Plan: “Talk to Me.” \nEvery year more people die by suicide than are killed in all of the armed conflicts around the world. In Wales roughly twice as many people die by suicide than are killed in road traffic accidents. Also\, for every suicide\, there may be up to 100 times more people who are injured through failed suicide attempts. \nMost people considering suicide share their distress and their intentions with others. ASIST training can help you recognise and respond to these invitations to help. It can give you the confidence to ask about suicide if you are concerned about someone’s safety. SUMMARY:Charity Trading: Know the Ropes
DESCRIPTION:If you’re having trouble untangling your concerns about charity trading\, the latest in WCVA’s exciting programme of third sector seminars will really help you out. \n  \nThis seminar – run by Geldards law firm – will guide you through the maze of charity trading concerns.  \n  \nThe day will be split into two sessions:the first session will cover the basics of what constitutes trading\, when trading income would be taxable in the hands of a charity\, and generally why you might set up a trading subsidiary. The second session will then look at how to set up a subsidiary\, the provision of working capital and use of other charity resources\, and the practical issues you will need to deal with. \n  \nThis is a challenging subject but practical examples and simple case studies will be used during the seminar to help both Charity Trustees and staff get to grips with it.
