SUMMARY:Safeguarding Children - Working with Evasive and Dangerous Parents
DESCRIPTION: A one-day course facilitated by Children in Wales \nEnquiries into the deaths of Victoria Climbie\, Peter Connolly and others have highlighted concerns about the way professionals sometimes respond to parents/carers who are evasive and possibly dangerous. \nThis one-day course brings together those involved in safeguarding children to explore ways of safer working for the benefit of children and professionals. \n  \nThe course will include:Sharing experiences of working with evasive and dangerous parents in the context of safeguarding childrenRaising awareness of the challenges faced by staff when safeguarding children from their parents’ acts of commission and omissionDiscussing concepts such as the ‘uncertainty principle’ and ‘disguised compliance’The duty of care owed by professionals to parents and childrenExploring responses to different scenariosLooking at preventive and protective strategies for dealing with evasive and dangerous parentsPlacing these strategies within a workplace health and safety contextExploring risk and resilience in families as a way of shaping interventions \nPrice:   Members £115   Non-members £135
