SUMMARY:Challenging the Narrative - Campaigning to Stop Islamophobia & Discrimination against Muslim Women
DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Equality Network (WEN) Wales\, in partnership with the Muslim Women’s Network UK (MWNUK)\, would like to invite you to attend an event to raise awareness about issues for Muslim women and promote campaigns that challenge prejudice and harmful stereotypes. \nWEN Wales is concerned by evidence which shows that Muslim women are particularly at risk of being targeted for hate crime and often experience high levels of discrimination. The increase in hostility since the EU Referendum also highlights the need to take more action in this area. \nThis event is an opportunity for members\, partners and all interested organisations to come together\, hear about the issues\, and find out how to support work being led by Muslim women to challenge prejudice and discrimination. \nDr Irene Zempi\, who has published widely on Muslim women\, anti-Muslim hate crime and Islamophobia\, will be presenting on her research. \nThis will be followed by presentations that showcase the exciting campaigns being led by Muslim women\, including the national #AndMuslim campaign and the ‘My Hijab Campaign’ in Cardiff.   \nConfirmed speakers \n\nDr Irene Zempi\, Director of the Nottingham Centre for Prejudice\, bias & Hate Crime and Lecturer in Criminology\, Nottingham Trent University\nFaeeza Vaid\, Executive Director\, Muslim Women’s Network UK\nFateha Ahmed\, Race Equality First & Cardiff Upstanding Neighbourhoods-Social Action Campaign.\n\nThis event is FREE but places are strictly limited.
