DESCRIPTION:What is ASIST? \n\nASIST is a “first aid” course that will equip anyone with the skills to intervene and save a life\nApplied Suicide Intervention Skills Training is a 2 day workshop that offers intensive training for front-line workers and community members\nThe emphasis is on teaching suicide first-aid\, to help a person at risk stay safe and seek further help as needed\nASIST provides practical training for caregivers seeking to prevent the immediate risk of suicide\n·It is the most widely used and researched suicide intervention skills training in the world\n\nWho is ASIST for? \n\nASIST is suitable for everyone – whether they are in a frontline position or as a concerned community member\n\nWhy ASIST? \n\nIn-depth\, practical training course\nQuality assured\, standardised format ensures consistency and establishes a common language and understanding throughout communities and front-line services\nAn effective intervention tool that combines the benefits of active listening with a practical\, directive approach\nEmpathetic\, person centred approach based on trust and communication\nHighly experienced trainers\n\nAims of the course: \nAfter the training\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecognise that caregivers and persons at risk are affected by personal and societal attitudes about suicide\nDiscuss suicide in a direct manner with someone at risk\nIdentify risk alerts and develop safe plans\nDemonstrate the skills required to intervene with a person at risk of suicide\nList the types of resources available to a person at risk\, including him or herself\nRecognise that suicide prevention is broader that suicide first aid and includes life promotion and self-care for caregivers\n\nPrice: £120 per person \nTo book\, please email sarah.williams@cardiffmind.org or call Sarah on (029) 2040 2040.
